Introducing The Cutting Table’s 2026 Block of the Month

2026 BOM Intro and fabric requirements

Welcome, friends, to our 2026 Block of the Month (BOM)! Last year, we had a lovely botanical theme. This year, we are still inspired by the miracles of nature but through a different lens. We want to celebrate transformation, growth, and childlike curiosity. Can you guess the theme?

Metamorphosis! It’s a story we can all recognize in ourselves as we grow, shift, and stretch into new versions of who we’re becoming. When I designed this BOM sampler quilt, I wanted to celebrate that journey. Each block — whether it’s a plump little caterpillar, a burst of blossoms, a ripe piece of fruit, or a butterfly in full flight — captures a moment in the cycle of change.

2026 Metamorphosis Block of the Month

To join the 2026 Block of the Month, you must subscribe to The Cutting Table. You can sign up as a monthly or annual subscriber. Additional monthly perks for subscribers include:

  • One monthly pattern download from the Suzy Quilts shop
  • 3 New tutorials
  • Unlimited access to all past and present content
  • Exclusive discounts to our partner shops
  • One monthly newsletter outlining the latest issue

Each month, subscribers of The Cutting Table will receive step-by-step instructions for a 16" square block plus a bonus tutorial that shows a fun new way to use that block in a smaller project. That means even if life gets busy or you decide not to finish the full quilt, you’ll still walk away with finished projects and new ideas.

Below is the January caterpillar block made into a wall hanging.

NOTE! Subscribers get access to all past and present content, so you can even make the 2024 and 2025 BOMs if you’re feeling motivated! All three of our BOM quilts are designed with 16" blocks, which makes them mix-and-match friendly. Use any Metamorphosis block in the bonus tutorials, swap blocks between BOMs, or design your own sampler using your favorite combinations. There’s no “wrong” way to play here.

This sampler quilt uses all PURE Solids from Art Gallery Fabrics; however, with the fabric requirements listed below, you can pick whatever colors and fabrics you like best. For those of you who enjoy sewing with yarn-dyed woven fabric, we’ve also created a mock-up using my Wildflower Wovens collection and included fabric requirements for both 42"- and 57"-wide fabric!

AND my second wovens collection will be available in May! It’s called Picnic Wovens and will also be 57" wide. I can’t wait!!

Oh, yeah, the blue one is calling seductively to me, as well. I shouldn’t even be thinking about a new project until I finish about 24 others. Anyway, there’s one exceptionally yummy blue in your solid line that always mankes me swoon…can’t remember the name…is it Honeymoon? On my 2026 UFO Completion List is a Fronds quilt in that blue I love and the 2025 BOM. I’m not behind, I just get ideas (mostly from you, Suzy) faster than I can sew.

Honeymoon and Cerulean! Oh, and Tiny Moons in any color. I had to look up the names. At my personal “Cutting Table” today I am taking an inventory of my SQ fabrics and making kits for the projects they were purchased for. It will be a fun afternoon and hopefully result in some wonderful creations in 2026. Stay cozy and enjoy the snow this weekend.

Welcome!! You have a few different options when it comes to sourcing fabric. You can get all of your fabric before you start, or, you could source fabric as you make each block. The monthly block instructions include fabric requirements for a single block. This allows you to use up your scraps and fabric from your stash. The end result would be a scrappy-looking sampler quilt. Which I think could be pretty cool! The easiest thing, of course, would be to purchase a kit. 😉
