5 Reasons You’ll Love the Slimline Lamp

Daylight-Slimline-Lamp

I know that things like “lamps” and “daylight” were invented a pretty long time ago, but the Slimline Lamp takes both of these timeless classics to a new level.

The Slimline Lamp is a small-ish, stylish, versatile lamp, but it lights up a room just as much as the big, in-your-face, in-your-way lamp you’ve been wanting to get rid of. (We all have that lamp. I mean, I used to have that lamp. Now I have this beautiful thang.)

5 Reasons Why You’ll Love the Slimline Lamp

1. It’s powerful.

We already established that we let bigger, more bothersome lamps stick around because hey, they actually give off a lot of light and isn’t that what a lamp is for? I get it. But the Slimline Lamp has you covered without getting in your way. I mean, there’s 80 tiny light bulbs at work in this little lamp. That’s 79 more than I was using before!

Check out the picture above. You can see my photo setup and then you can see the picture I took. My studio was in darkness except for the Slimline Lamp and I still got a great photo – no weird warm glow or glare, either. Seen in the pictures here is the Slimline S LED Table Lamp.

2. It's low-key.

My sewing room can get really busy and chaotic and y’all know I don’t need any more distractions. I ALSO don’t need another huge piece of equipment taking up space. Thank you, Slimline Lamp, for basically being a normal lamp that went on a really successful diet.

Trending patterns!

[To tell you the truth, I was approached by another craft lamp company last year. In exchange for one of their lamps, I was to write an honest review. Sounded good to me! I was on board and ready to launch...until I got the lamp in the mail.

It was huge and heavy and looked...well it looked like a robot from the Jetsons and not in a cute Rosie-kind-of-way. Since I didn’t like the lamp, I didn’t feel comfortable writing publicly about it, so I had to back out of writing the post. Not the case with my Slimline!]

3. It's sleek.

I’m stylish, right? Okay, so I TRY to be stylish, and keep my sewing room super trendy. That means no dorky lamps allowed! The Slimline definitely ups my room’s coolness factor (and we all know I can use all the help I can get.) In fact, if I squint the right way, I can hardly see it! It’s super skinny with a nice brushed chrome finish. Also, maybe I need a higher prescription on my glasses?

That luscious stack of jersey you see on my cutting table is the exciting start to my next big pattern release. Eeeek! But I'll tell you more about that later. Back to Mr. Lampie.

4. It's light.

I’m usually totally cool with the Slimline chillin by my side, but in the case that I have one of those “Everything Outta My Way!!!” moments, this lamp is really light and easy to move. Definitely a plus. Based on what I'm working on, I sometimes clamp it to my cutting table or my sewing table. Now that I type that, I'm realizing I should just get two of these. Did you hear that, Daylight Company? 😉

5. It's flexible.

This is one of those traits I knew I needed in a husband, but never knew how much I wanted it in a lamp. The Slimline is reeallly flexi-bendy, so you can light your project at literally any angle. This is perfect for those late-night sewing sessions.

This is perfect timing! I’ve been looking at different lamps been I’ve been reluctant to pull the trigger. I have 2 questions…one lamp related, one not.
    1. Does this lamp get hot?
    2. Would you please share what you used to put your color card fabric swatches on? It looks so neat and tidy. I love it!

    • Suzy Quilts says:

      1. I don’t think so…I mean, I don’t touch it a bunch, but when I have touched it, it’s not hot.
      2. Yes! I really should write a blog about this cause it’s so easy and ends up looking pretty cool. I bought a 24″ x 36″ magnetic dry erase board. The one I got from Office Depot is expensive and bad quality so I won’t link to it. You can do better. As you can see in the pic above, the corners are bowing off the wall like crazy. I need to nail them back down. I then got a bunch of these magnetic square stickers and stuck them to the back of each swatch that I cut up. Viola!

First, Thank you for the review! I wondered what this lamp was like. One of my lamps sits on my table and is super bulky….this seems great!
Second, I am drooling over the PANTONE color card pack!

  3. Kris says:

That lamp would be a great addition to my work area. Like you mentioned it is flexible…which is nice! Could you tell me the color of those fabrics on your table? So pretty!

That’s a new stack for my next pattern release, Bohemian Garden. I’m so glad you like it! When I release the pattern I’ll give the fabric rundown, but in the mean time, they are all Birch Fabrics. From top to bottom: Pink, Mint, Cream, Pond, Peachy, Marigold, Grass, Havana, Wink Pink.

I bought this Slimline Lamp a couple years ago and really, really love it!! I mostly use it over my sewing machine. I did purchase the desktop model so I could move it if needed somewhere else.

I’m going to piggy back on the color swatch question. I would love a blog post about your process putting together colors. What tools/ materials you use. Do you start e a color and then build. Love your blog. It’s been so useful and I’ve kearned a lot!

Such a cute & organized sewing space!!!
Two part question as well…(1) Does the lamp’s brightness adjustable? I followed the links and didn’t see it mentioned so I’m assuming no? (2) Also, where did you find your large ruler stand?

    Thanks so much!

  7. Fran says:

I too have been looking for a dependable review for a lamp like this. Thanks……Will order today!!
Also Suzy where did you get your cutting table? I love the height of it!!

  8. Jennie says:

Wow, your sewing corner is amazing!! I have a room that looks like a tornado goes through it daily!!! Love the lamp too!

  9. Elizabeth Bolton says:

After reading your review and checking it out, I got one of these lamps, and I LOVE IT!!!!! I’ve had it a bit more than a year, I think, and every single day when I sit down my machine, I am grateful I took the plunge! Thank you for writing about it – it is exactly right for me!

Thanks for the lamp review which prompted me to finally address my lighting issues! I was having to put off all fabric decisions whenever the sun went down and now I’ll have much more flexibility in what I do when. Though I’m not a minimalist in any way, my worktops and floorspace are already too full so this lamp is perfect. I love 1) that all the parts are steel instead of plastic, 2) the easy repositioning of the light and 3) the four brightness levels. Definitely worth the money! Your thoughtful reviews are really appreciated!

Your blog post inspired me to kill two birds with one lamp. Spouse is currently working from home from a dim corner of our bedroom (very grateful to have his income, but having everyone home for school and work makes for a crowded home). He will be working 90% from home through January minimum but I suspect for the duration of the pandemic. His work just bought us a fancy floor lamp with daylight lighting option for his use; they probably won’t ask for it back if and when he gets to return to the office. It can do double duty in the weekends and evenings for craft work and I didn’t have to pay for it!
