Butterfly Garden Quilt Pattern

The Butterfly Garden is a perfect spring quilt! This beginner friendly quilt pattern uses fat quarters, fat eighths or a jelly roll. suzyquilts.com

Dear quilty friends, it has been a Herculean effort to photograph the extraordinary number of Butterfly Garden quilts made by my sample makers! I think this is the most amount of quilts I've ever had at my house at once. I better build an epic fort while I can! 😉

I think the reason I'm currently being crushed under a pile of quilts is because this light-hearted, springtime design is not only beautiful, but honest to goodness, just so fun to make. About half of my sample makers made more than one! Inside each block are a couple quilt classics — HSTs and four patches.

The ability to make this pattern scrappy or simple also adds to its appeal. As you'll be able to see from the many many examples, there are lots of ways to make a Butterfly Garden. Oh! And did I mention the pattern will be available next week on May 24? Hip hip hooray!

The second reason getting these quilts photographed and posted has been such an effort is that both of my kids (Desi - 4 and Joanna - 2) have been home for the past 8 days with hand, foot, and, mouth. Ya'll, I'm not going to sugarcoat this — it's been rough at the Quilts house. There has been an endless stream of popsicles and oatmeal baths. Needless to say, we have all persevered, and in spite of painful blisters, fevers, and body aches, the kids seem to have turned a corner and are finally on the mend. Phew!

I'm going to jump in with the quilts and link to as many kits as are live at the moment. Some are still being posted, some are preorders, and most will sell out really fast, so I apologize in advance if you see this too late. If there is a kit you like that is sold out, I encourage you to reach out to the fabric shop and ask if they can make you one that is similar or maybe even exactly the same. Usually they will. Let's start the butterfly parade!

What a beautiful pattern! The test quilts are all so different and they’re all amazing. It’s hard to pick a favorite! I loved seeing you quilting with your son. When my son was young (he’s 33 now) he knew how to knit and make quilts.

  2. Ioleen says:

Love all these butterfly quilts. Will be paying the pattern on May 24th. I’m planning the colours I will use as I type this, lol.

  3. Peg Gilson says:

Lord knows I don’t need a kit, but I would love to purchase the pattern. The fabric I hand dyed recently is waiting to be used.

Sorry to hear that your babies have been ill. We had gastroenteritis one after the other for what seemed like forever. Lots of laundry!!

  4. Becky says:

I’m crazy about the black/white/gray one with the single colorful butterfly. I’m def going to do that one! I love your patterns.

  5. Lisainred says:

I thought I remember seeing an announcement that there will be a video tutorial with this quilt. Can you remind me when this starts? I cannot seem to find it anymore on your website. Thank you.

      • Lisainred says:

Thank you. I finally found the date under the listing of the pattern. I’m looking forward to this sew along. I’m wanting to make a quilt for my college-bound daughter’s dorm room bed.

  6. Vicki B says:

Would love to get a kit. I am new to your site and noticed that there was no measurements for the runner. Should I purchase enough for a baby quilt and align the blocks for a runner?
    So excited to get started!!
