Founder of Closet Case Patterns, Heather Lou, may be a sewing superstar but she’s also Just Like Us! She had a closet crammed with ill-fitting clothes, but was overwhelmed by the prospect of sewing (most of us can identify with at least one of those!) For one year, she decided to stop buying, and start making. The result? A closet of simple, comfortable clothes, and a new business! Heather Lou’s patterns embrace personal style and story, as well as simplicity and a sense of sewing community. What’s not to love?
Another fun fact: Heather Lou’s patterns are bi-lingual in both English and French! Even though I took four semesters of French in school, I'll still be reading from the English side, but what an interesting feature, n'est-ce pas?

The Closet Case Patterns Aesthetic
Heather Lou’s patterns are fun, expressive, and perfect for all body types. With patterns ranging from shirt dresses to swimsuits, you could literally fill a wardrobe with just Closet Case clothing.
The Closet Case signature style is embodied well in one of our favorite patterns, the Fiona Dress Pattern. This dress is simple and versatile, but tailored well and finished with a long row of buttons (I love the unique detail!) With an adjustable length and perfect with layers, this dress could easily become a wardrobe staple.
Trending patterns!
This dress ranks at an intermediate sewing level, but Closet Case offers patterns beginner-level options as well (check out the Amy Jumpsuit.) I love this shorter denim version with the cross-strap back. Since having a baby recently, I look at clothing with the filter of nursing-friendly or not. These buttons allow this adorably fashionable dress to be great for nursing moms!
The Fiona Dress is gorgeous, but Closet Case is full of such a wide variety of pieces to choose from. Check out my pattern picks, and give your closet a full-on makeover!
My Pattern Picks
Closet Case has patterns for every season of the year:
Spring: The Charlie Caftan Pattern
This elegant dress is something I'd love wear to a backyard party… you know, the kind where you try to sip cocktails and play croquet at the same time (will someone please invite me to one of those?!) I LOVE the combination of the V neckline and the kimono sleeves. I’m so glad this dress pattern is in the world.
Summer: The Bombshell Swimsuit Pattern
I have never tried sewing a swimsuit before, but I thought it was so cool that Heather Lou writes swimsuit patterns that I had to include one in this feature post! This swimsuit is a 1950s dream. It’s flattering and modest, and includes three variations. The ruched seams and skirt-like front are so stylin’... someone needs to try this pattern out!
Fall: The Kelly Anorak Jacket Pattern
If you want to keep wearing the Charlie Caftan dress into the fall (which, of course you will), just layer it with this super-cool anorak! It’s lightweight enough to wear anywhere, and it has awesome flaps and pockets and zippers that make this jacket truly unique. It’s a great project in twill or linen, but if you want to go bold and pick up some goretex, you could even make it into a rain coat!
Winter: The Ebony T-Shirt & Knit Dress Pattern
This is a true beginner pattern if this is your first time creating your own clothing! This dress can be created with any length, in any size, and can be worn anywhere… every day. Are you sold yet? This modern top is perfect for layering, and looks great with leggings. I love things that look great with leggings.
