We are two weeks away from December 25th! Merry almost Christmas!! Is two weeks enough time to do some more Christmas quilting? Let's see if you're up for the challenge... How important is sleep? Also, are you planning on decorating those sugar cookies you just pulled out of the oven?
If your response is "Not important" and "I've already dumped them in the trash. Let's do this!" Ooooh baby have I got the perfect quilt pattern for you – it's the Hexie Stripe quilt!
This beautiful 1/2 yd. bundle was assembled as a collaboration with Cottoneer. It keeps selling out within 24 hours of going live, but I just got the news that it will be restocked (for the third time) later this evening! Yippy!
The Perfect Christmas Quilting Fabric
To make this Hexie Stripe quilt, all you need is 1/2 yd. cuts of 9 different fabrics. I've been asked many times if you can make this quilt using a jelly roll and the answer is yes, however, you will waste more fabric and need more than one jelly roll. So maybe save that adorable jelly roll for this free jelly roll pattern?
I've linked to various fabric shops for the fabrics used, however if you keep checking in with Cottoneer you can source them all from one place.

Hexie Stripe Sewing Tips
I have three big tips to pass along when sewing this quilt:
- Check out the MANY sewing-triangles resources here on the SQ blog. Through the Mod Mountains sew along and the Perennial quilt tips post, we have a video for cutting triangles, sewing triangles into rows, and pressing rows. If you have any hesitation about assembling a quilt with triangles, first check out these short videos.
- If you sew a seam slightly larger than a 1/4" your triangles will end up a little bit shorter than 6 1/2" high. That's OK. As long as all of your triangles are the same size they will still sew together beautifully.
- If you are using a flat-top triangle ruler, line up the base of the triangle with the 6 1/2" guideline and cut past the tip of your ruler so that your triangles all have points. You want to make sure that each fabric strip in the triangles maintain the same width so your seams line up when you sew your rows together.
When finishing this quilt, Sara machine quilted part of it and then added some hand quilting for texture. Find a video tutorial showing this machine and hand quilting technique here - How to Hand Quilt + Video!
Once her quilt was finished she machine stitched her binding to the quilt and then used the same running stitch from the hand quilting video to flip and tack her binding down. Find a quilt binding tutorial here - How to Sew Binding to a Quilt.
Just bought the 5 patterned fabrics from bobbieloufabric.com (free shipping over $35!) and the 4 solids from missouriquiltco.com. Can NOT wait to make this one. One of my faves to come from your beautiful mind. Thanks Suzy!!
Oh well now you’re making me blush 😁❤️
A Christmas quilt with no Christmas fabric…it’s perfect!
hi love this quilt pattern! can i substitute 18 FQ? thanks!
I think so…not 100%, but is you’re ok with a really scrappy look I think it can be done.
do you have the template for the hexie quilt?
No template needed! It’s much simpler than that. The pattern is here – https://suzyquilts.com/shop/hexie-stripe-quilt-pattern-download/
I know I’m late to the game, but would Cottoneer be willing to sell this bundle again?
Will this bundle be available again?!
Hey Brandi! This was a kit sold by the wonderful online quilt shop Cottoneer back in 2019. It’s not available anymore, but you could find similar colors and prints in their shop! Here’s a link: https://www.cottoneerfabrics.com/
I’ll also pipe in that the Sarah of sarah-made.com will be selling lots of Christmas kits again this season, potentially another variation of this. If you email her she can give you a clearer timeline on when those will be available. 🙂
