The Grow quilt pattern will be available on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, but because I know it's fun to plan and shop for fabric, I want you to have the fabric requirements NOW!!
Join the Suzy Quilts Patterns Facebook Group to see a video on how to use the free Recolor app to color in the line mock-up included in all SQ patterns on your phone or tablet.
Below are the sizes the Grow pattern will include:
- King - 116" X 116"
- Queen/Full - 86" x 100"
- Twin - 79" x 92"
- Throw - 61" x 61"
- Baby - 40" x 40"

There will be an online community sew along (similar to our Mod Mountains and Modern Fans sew alongs starting April 1, 2020. All of the sizes have a similar layout to this mockup EXCEPT the baby quilt. It's a tiny bit different, so Desi wanted to show you an example.

Grow is the first design in a series of four quilts that represent the four seasons in a year, as well as seasons in our lives. Each pattern focuses on a sewing skill along with a general life meditation. Since quilting can naturally be meditative and restorative, these meditations will be an added thing to consider as you walk through the quilt-making process.

The primary skill involved in making the Grow quilt is strip piecing and pressing. Before turning on your iron or sewing machine, pause for a minute to close your eyes and take some deep breaths, listening to your body’s rhythm. While you sew your strips and gently press your seams, consider how you have personally grown – be it mentally, emotionally, or simply as a quilter.

Who's excited for this release?? Tell us in the comments!
This sounds awesome!! Trying to get my meditations in anywhere I can. 😃
Me too!! I’m completely addicted to the Headspace app.
Despite already having a gajillion other projects to do. I’m Thinkin this sounds great
Such a cute quilt and such a cute baby! I’ve never done a sew along so I think I will try it out in the baby size for my nephew.
Am I mistaken or are there no measurements for the stripes? Love the concept and is a cute quilt, would be better with actual measurements, other wise meditation gets a little stressful for me at my age
When the pattern comes out next week there will be full measurements, instructions with illustrations and lots of color variations to help get your creative juices flowing. 😉
Oh I cannot wait to make this one! I love the layout and the colors are fantastic.
I would love to try this. Being relatively new, how do you determine which color is which in your fabric requirements? For example, in the quilt shown, which is color 1, 2, etc. maybe it’s there and I missed it.
Great question! So the pattern will include a really clear schematic with Color 1-7 labels, but with what’s seen here if you look at the left side of the Fabric Requirements chart you can see small color swatches. Those coordinate with color blocks in the quilt.
Loving this quilt. Medatative breathing then quilting is a very good practice. I want to sew along with you and cannot wait for the pattern release!
Susy, you did it again! Another beautiful quilt. I just bought a Stripology ruler and I think I’m ready for this quilt too.
Awwww! Thanks, Carol!!
At first glance I know I want to make this quilt. It is stunning! Your designs are so wonderfully different from the quilt patterns I see. They always draw me in to look: at the design, detail of quilting, and the color choices. I’m currently working on a king size quilt for my twin for a house warming gift and pray I finish in time to join the sew along. I don’t have Facebook so will have to decide what to do. Anyway ~ great job!!!!
Thank you, Mimi! I will post all of the sew along info here on the blog, so no need for social media. If you want to win prizes, those will be handed out through Instagram participation, but again, not necessary. Good luck finishing such a large quilt! I commend your bravery. 😉
Oh my gosh Suzy, Desi is adorable, looks just like his daddy.
Suzy, I am new to quilting and really enjoy learning from your posts. I love your creative ideas and fabric choices and the variations in how you quilt each piece. I have my fabric ready to go for this one and can’t wait to get started!
I do NOT need to start another project…..however, I reeeeaallly want the fun of the QAL, so I think I might just have to do this. PS Desi is a fantastic quilt model.
I love the colors that Desi showed us and he is SO cute and squishy… I don’t know how you get anything done! What is that amazing fabric you used for the back? I love it!!!
Hi Suzy my name is Janice just want to say I just love your quilt designs and made one for my grandson, will definitely be joining QAL show your patterns to all my quilting friends here in Melbourne Australia.
Love this, but I am horr-i-ble at cutting long strips straight. They go all wonky at the fold. Will you provide tips on how to avoid this? Thanks so much!
YES! We will cover how to cut strips on grain. That will help keep everything nice and straight. 🙂
This is just what I need!
I used these tips, thank you – they made cutting strips much easier & straighter!
Yay!!
I love the design and how it highlights the fabric choices of the quilter and then practicing breathing and meditation while sewing so much the better!
I signed up for the grow sew a long but did not receive the email April 1st.
Hey Debbie, I’m so happy you’re sewing along with me! Week 1 officially launched on April 1 and you can read about it here – https://suzyquilts.com/grow-quilt-sew-along-week-1-pick-your-fabric/ The weekly newsletter about it won’t go out until Saturday, though. That scheduling works best for me since I watch a toddler 5 days a week. 😉
