Join the Adventureland Quilt Sew Along
Welcome, quilty friends! I am so excited to get back in the saddle and start a new sew along adventure with you! The Adventureland quilt pattern is a new take on a simple strip quilt. Let me tell ya, folks, this is the best modern quilt pattern for a beginner quilter, especially if you start with a precut bundle of 2.5" strips.
To make this pattern you can use yardage, a precut bundle (often called a jelly roll) or scrap strips of fabric. Another BIG reason I like this pattern for beginners is that you can make it on the CHEAP. If you use a solid precut bundle (about $30) and a solid yard of fabric (about $8), you can make a throw quilt top for under $40.
PLUS the trimmed scraps can be used for binding. PLUS when looking for backing fabric if you find some inexpensive sheets or better yet, thrifted/vintage/used sheets, you can probably make this quilt from beginning to end for $50. I kid you not.

Adventureland Quilt Sew Along
- Who: You! Us! You don't need to sign-up, but there are lots of different ways to participate online.
- What: We will make a throw Adventureland quilt. You can make any size you want, but the schedule is written with the throw size in mind. You can purchase the PDF pattern here.
- Where: Everything is online. Sew along updates will be posted on this blog and, on Instagram and in the Suzy Quilts Patterns Facebook group.
- When: March 22 - April 19, 2022 (Short and sweet. Only four weeks!)
- Why: Follow along with the hashtag (#AdventurelandQuiltSA) on Instagram and see what hundreds of other quilters are making. It's really inspiring! Plus there are prizes...

Adventureland Sew Along Schedule
This sew along officially starts on Tuesday, March 22, but I suggest you start thinking about your fabric for this project now, especially if you plan on ordering something online. Because this pattern is easy peasy to make, this sew along will only be four short weeks!

Adventureland Fabric Requirements
Just to remind you, in this sew along we will be making the throw size, however you can make any size you want. To win the final Week 4 prize you need to show a finished throw or larger quilt top.

Featured Quilt Fabric
Aside from the backing, all of this fabric came from my stash. I mixed lots of different kinds of fabrics. Why, you ask? Three reasons:
- This is what I had and I wanted to use it.
- That mindset and the mixing of different kinds of fabric is how the early quiltmakers used to sew and I like trying to be like them as much as I can. I think they were pretty cool. 😉
- Each different kind of fabric brings its own unique look and texture to the quilt which gives the finished quilt more interest, both visually and as you run your hand across it.

I love this version of Adventureland. However, I think I want to make a twin. I haven’t seen a picture of what it looks like. I’m not sure which fabrics to buy more of because I can’t see what it looks like. Can I see a picture?
Hey Pam, the twin looks exactly like the throw except with background borders on the top and bottom. Those borders will be under pillows or hanging off the end of the bed, so they will be subtle. I suggest using the same fabric you pick for the background.
I would like to make the queen size quilt. If I am reading the pattern correctly, I will need 10 different colors of fabric, is that correct (not counting the borders)? Thank you!
Hi Lisa, that’s right! You’ll need all the colors listed under the Queen size “Color Yardage” in the Fabric Requirements on page 2, which add up to 10. Have fun making your quilt!
Is it possible to make the queen size with multiple jelly rolls – I have two that mix well together and would love to try this quilt
This could get tricky because many jelly rolls do not come with duplicates of each print and to get the strips long enough for a queen size, you will be piecing strips together. So, yes, it is possible, however you will have a very scrappy looking queen quilt.
