The Meet the Maker series is back! We'll be featuring two more amazing fiber artists before we close out the series. To read about other featured makers we love, click here!

One of the coolest things about Annabel Wrigley (and believe me, there are many, many cool things) is that she is just one sewist… but she has given birth to many, many littler sewists. I don’t mean literally, although she does have a daughter!

I mean that she is responsible for nurturing and inspiring droves of little tiny hands to take up the art of sewing. Little Pincushion Studio, Annabel’s business, is in the business of teaching children to sew, one stitch at a time.

The Little Pincushion Aesthetic

All of the projects Annabel creates with the help of her little sewing elves are bold and colorful. Her Instagram feed is full of scrappy rainbow pillows and bright abstract quilts.

Though Annabel focuses on teaching classes, she still maintains a clear design point of view and has a signature style. Her modern quilts, full of shapes, colors and whimsical lines, are enough to convince anyone to sign up their kids (or themselves) for her classes.

Pictured above are some of her much adored doodle quilts. These quilts tap into color theory, composition, sewing technique and FUN! Aren't they cool? In addition to winning quilting awards for these quilts, Annabel shares the skills and instructions on how to make one similar in some of her workshops. Just recently she traveled across the US to the Portland Modern Quilt Guild to teach a doodle quilt class.

I also love her use of prints and solids, with a healthy dose of rainbow magic, in her modern interpretation of a log cabin quilt.

Little Pincushion Summer Camps

Do you have a kid who loves Unicorns? Fashion? Modern quilting? (I'm 33 and I love all three of those things!) Annabel has summer camps geared towards kids and teens that sound way cooler than any of the summer camps I went to.

Little Pincushion Summer Camps include a week of amazing sewing projects and instruction. The camp fee includes all the supplies needed to produce some amazing fiber creations. The 2019 Camp Schedule included a Mythical Creatures Camp, Fashion Camp, Modern Quilting for Teens and a Beginner Sewing Camp. Sign me UP!

Saturday Afternoon Workshops

On Saturday afternoons, rural Virginia is the place to be (did I mention the physical studio is in Virginia? But don’t worry, we’ll talk about virtual options later…) Annabel’s afternoon workshops focus on a single adorable project for kids to start and finish in less than 3 hours!

Her recent workshop participants completed watermelon-shaped floor pillows, and S’MORES PILLOWS, people! I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon.

Knitting Classes for Kids… AND ADULTS!

Just so the taller, slightly-more-mature people don’t feel left out, Annabel offers knitting classes for all ages! Knitting sessions are a place to learn the basics of knitting, and also provide the opportunity for each attendee to pick out their own project and yarn if they have a certain dream knit in mind. All skill levels are welcome.

Ok, here’s the moment most of us were waiting for…

Little Pincushion’s Video Classes!

If you’re not chilling in the rural South of the USA, don’t worry! Annabel offers online classes through CreativeBug, a subscription online education service. Through her step-by-step video tutorials, kids (and adults!) can learn the basics of sewing through specific projects, like a sleeping bag, backpack, sewing kit, or a BOW TIE! (I’m in!)

I can't promise that she'll wear BFF necklaces with you (she and I already have a set), but I can tell you that behind all of that talent, she is one of the sweetest people you'll meet.
