Step 1: Cut Your Fabric
For the table runner, follow the cutting instructions below and cutting diagrams in Noel pattern for the limited-color version to get the most out of your width of fabric. The cutting instructions follow the limited-color diagrams because the table runner uses yardage instead of fat quarters, but when the block is assembled, use the multi-color instructions because the table runner uses two colors plus a background.
Color 1:
- (1) 9 1/2" x WOF, sub-cut (8) Template B
- (1) 8 3/4" x WOF, sub-cut (8) Template A-R
Color 2:
- (1) 9 1/2" x WOF, sub-cut (8) Template B
- (1) 8 3/4" x WOF, sub-cut (8) Template A-R
Background:
- (2) 9 1/2" x WOF, sub-cut (16) Template B-R
- (1) 8 3/4" x WOF, sub-cut (16) Template A
Binding:
- (4) 2 1/4" x WOF
Backing:
- (1) 24" x 72"
Batting:
- (1) 24" x 72"
Use a standard 45mm rotary cutter to cut the strips and a 28mm rotary cutter to cut the curves on the acrylic templates. The smaller blade makes it easier to cut along the curves. If that makes you a little anxious, you can use a disappearing ink pen to trace the template before cutting.
Step 2: Make the Noel Quilt Blocks
Refer to the Noel quilt pattern to assemble four identical Noel blocks using the instructions for the multi-color version.
Step 3: Assemble the Table Runner
Sew the Noel blocks together to create a row of 4 blocks. Press the seams open to reduce bulk. The table runner will measure 16 1/2" x 64 1/2".
Step 4: Baste and Quilt
You’re almost there! To baste the table runner, lay the backing piece wrong side up, then batting on top of the backing, and the pieced table runner right side up.
Quilt the table runner as desired. I quilted mine with my longarm machine using a pantograph called Rosemary. Isn’t it perfect for this Noel table runner? It would also look lovely with straight line quilting or hand quilting!
Step 5: Finish the Table Runner
Attach the binding to the table runner. I used my machine to sew the binding to the front and finished it by hand on the back side. Check out this binding tutorial if you need help attaching and finishing the binding.
