PURE Solids by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics
Hello and welcome to the grand unveiling of the PURE Signature Solids by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics! This collection of 20 premium quilting cottons is a mix of light and dark with shades spanning the colors of the rainbow.
I love quilting with solid fabrics and have long coached others, through our many sew alongs and in The Cutting Table, in how to use them most effectively. I've made many beautiful quilts with all solid fabric, and love how striking and simple they can be.
Not only are solid fabrics timeless, this PURE Solids collection in particular was designed to take the guesswork out of pulling fabric for your next quilt. Created as a capsule collection, I took into account the need for foreground and background fabrics, lights and darks, and color families that coordinate with prints seamlessly.
These Suzy Quilts PURE solids were designed in conjunction with my other printed collection, Duval. Both of these collections will be available in August 2023, but fabric pre-orders for shops is happening now! Click here to view both collections on the Art Gallery Fabrics website.

Picking Pantones for Suzy Quilts Signature Solids
The assignment was to pick 16 colors. Hmmm...sounds simple enough, right? Well after months of deliberating, simple, yes, but easy? Oh heck no. I thought up every different scenario for these colors and wanted to make sure they worked in perfect harmony with each other. I also had the hurtle of not using a PURE solid shade that was already available. Did you know that Art Gallery Fabrics already has A LOT of beautiful solids? Ha ha!
Anyway, after narrowing my selection down to 16, I emailed Pat and Walter Bravo (the founders of Art Gallery Fabrics) and asked, "Is there any way we can bump 16 up to 20? I really need 4 more colors." They said, "No prob!" and I was ecstatic!
After a few more days of fiddling with my Pantone swatch books, I emailed them 22 colors, hoping they wouldn't notice I'd slipped in 2 more. Well, they did notice and said, "Not so fast, lil missy!" Or something along those lines, so here we are, with a fantastic collection of 20 colors. I just know you're going to love them!

Suzy Quilts PURE Solids Color Inspiration
I think because a lot of quilters learn how to quilt either when they are children or when they are having children, many of the quilting fabrics available currently are designed in fun and playful colors with cute little illustrations or characters.
I was 15 when I learned to quilt, and at 16 got a job in a small fabric shop off I-70. Most days only one or two customers would come in, so that left me a lot of time to sew with the inventory. Can you guess what kind of fabric that shop mostly carried? Civil War reproduction fabrics!
That's right! Rich burgundy, deep blue, dark brown, and dusty purple. Oh I looooved the dusty purples. Even as I got older and discovered modern fabric designers, I still had a soft spot for those fabrics drawing from less saturated colors.

With this fabric capsule collection, I used some similar tones as those reproduction fabrics I fell in love with over 20 years ago, but didn't stop there. To make them feel modernized and fresh, I included lots of light hues and gradient steps to make the transitions between color families easy and natural.
When I coach people on how to pick colors for a quilt, I tell them to first figure out the quilt's "vibe." All that means is to nail down a clear aesthetic. So, following my own advice, the vibe of this collection is joyful sophistication.
I want these colors to be a welcoming sight in your home. I hope they help you create beauty through sophistication, but not the stuffy kind of sophistication — the easy, messy, joyful, joie de vivre kind. 🙂

One thing I love about this capsule collection is that if you pull out the softer hues, you get the most beautiful group of pastel fabrics. I just finished a fun project with them and I can't wait to show you!
But of course, those pastels need a darker counterpart to balance them out. The darkest fabric seen below is called Nova, and its lighter step down is Honeymoon. I think Honeymoon might be my favorite color in the world!

That middle hue of green is called Matcha. And it's probably my second favorite color in the collection, in part because my daily ritual of drinking a large matcha tea is something I look forward to and savor.

Suzy Quilts PURE Solids & Duval Collections Together
You can see the 18 premium quilting cottons in the Duval fabric collection here. In the photos below I grouped the three different color families of Duval so you can clearly see the fabrics together; however, as you can see in pics of the full Duval collection, you can mix and match from the three color families any way you like.
:O! The third group of PURE solids/Duval with the creams, teals, and dark teals is absolutely stunning! Can’t wait ‘til they come out! Hopefully by then I’ll have saved up enough 😉
