Zigzag Rope Sewing Projects is written by Katherine Lile, owner of The Mountain Thread Company, a North Carolina-based shop that specializes in coiled rope baskets and high-quality quilting cottons. And trust us when we say that Katherine knows what she's talking about — she's a 4th generation quilter and started sewing when she was in preschool!

Katherine is the kind of shop owner you want to know. She's kind, personable, and patient. Even though I don't live in North Carolina, I've been able to see Katherine in action on her website where she has free rope basket tutorials! And the best part of Katherine's shop is that even though I'm not local, I can still shop online! I think her rope bowl kits are my favorite.

Check out this adorable video all about her shop and how she developed the custom rope sold exclusively at The Mountain Thread Company which is perfect for home sewing.

I think this will be an awesome new craft for my very crafty granddaughter and I to learn together. The nesting baskets intrigue us.

I recently purchased Katherine’s book and agree that it’s probably the best book on rope sewing that I own! I’ve made well over a hundred of these bowls and now have info I never had before.

  3. Catherine Nava says:

I learned how to make rope bowls with Catherine via her YouTube instructions and purchased a large bolt of rope. She’s a great instructor and the quality of the rope at mountain thread company is excellent.

I have started to make them ! very addictive !
But I have a problem with my cord twisting all the time, and it takes ages to “un tangle/ un twist” it (not sure about my english there) 🙂
What am I doing wrong ? Thanks for any advise !
