Friends, I’m a bag person. And a purse person. I mean, who isn’t. How could we ever live through life without a fantastic purse? Carry things in our hands? We only have two of those! And they’re so small! No. Purses and bags. And you know who the queen of purses and bags is (sewing them, at least)? Anna Graham, of Noodlehead. Well designed bag patterns is what she's all about.
Our next blog series, Meet the Maker, is going to feature other creatives in the sewing space, showcasing all of the incredible things that needle and thread can do!
Anna named Noodlehead after the nickname she gave her curly-haired daughter (adorable) and has since written her own book (awesome) and designed a fabric collection (whaaat?!) The sewing patterns she has written for bags, totes, and purses are some of her latest and greatest designs, but she also writes tutorials for cute kids accessories and stylin’ home goods.

The Noodlehead Aesthetic
Anna’s totes and bags are stylish, practical, and downright professional-looking. Because Anna also sells corresponding hardware kits, handles, zippers and webbing, all of her patterns can be topped off with those little extras that make a sewing project look totally store-bought.
The Noodlehead signature style is represented well by one of her latest patterns, the Redwood Tote. Can we just talk about how great this tote is for a second? It’s a mid-sized crossbody tote, which in my opinion, is something that everyone needs in their life (maybe even three of them.)
Trending patterns!

It also has multiple pockets… and you all know how I feel about pockets! A front zippered pocket and a back slip pocket are perfect for on-the-go organization, and the inner pockets are designed for all of your gum and lip balm needs (everyone keeps packs of gum and 5 tubes of chapstick in those pockets… right?)
But pockets aside, the overall design of this tote is so clean and finished, it’s a pretty irresistible pattern for anyone looking to make their first bag. This one is an advanced beginner to intermediate level, but Noodlehead definitely offers patterns at all sewing levels… and I will show them to you.

My Pattern Picks
It’s hard to choose just a few patterns to highlight from Noodlehead’s shop because they all have a different purpose and unique appeal. Ok, ok, I’ll do my best.
The Crescent Tote
This cute little tote is perfect for stashing a knitting project… or an appliqué project… or your lunch (one of my favorite types of projects.) With a cool zippered front pocket for all your crafting… or eating… tools and a flat bottom, this tote is the perfect everyday go-to

Making Backpack
It’s both simple and customizable! This canvas backpack is cute and full of pockets and handles and the professional-looking details that Anna Graham is known for. To make things easy, Anna put together this Making Backpack Hardware & Webbing Kit to go along with it!

The Minimalist Wallet
Not ready to tackle a purse just yet? Try this beginner-friendly pattern! This fun and functional wallet with hold all your essentials, and give you the opportunity to say, “Oh, you like my wallet? Yeah, I made it!” (You know you’ve always wanted to say that!)

She makes some of my favorite bag patterns! I made my mom one of her totes for Christmas and now a few of my family members want one as well…We’ll have to see about that!
Thanks for sharing this. I love the look of her bags. Anxious to try one!
The Noodlehead market bag from her book Handmade Style is my all-time favorite. I’ve made a few for gifts and have some more in mind (the chosen fabrics are stacked with the book!). Her bag styles, big and small, and pouches are all appealing, and I like that she sells bag hardware so you don’t have to go searching for that.
I LOVE all of her stuff!! That’s for sharing her latest patterns 🙂
Awe! Thank you so much, you are too kind! 🙂
Her hardware and leather goods are surprisingly affordable!! Thanks for sharing, so many new projects to try!
I LOVE my Noodlehead patterns! And my Suzy Quilts patterns. 🙂 I’m working on a Redwood Tote right now, and I am loving how it’s turning out!
