Binding Fabric You Must Try!

This NEW quilt binding fabric by Suzy Quilts is something you must try! suzyquilts.com

Two words: binding fabric. What?! YES! It’s new, so you haven’t heard of this before, but it’s so so fun and I just know you're going to love it. Folding it over and seeing the mirrored details on both sides is incredibly gratifying. This binding fabric is part of my new Duval fabric collection with Art Gallery Fabrics. It's called Key West Bound...get it? It's a pun... oh dear...haha!

OK anyway! You should buy it ONLY by the yard. No fat quarters, no layer cakes, and definitely no charm packs. Small squatty precuts would defeat its purpose of being loooooong.

Above is a picture of the yardage laid out and below is what it looks like bound on a quilt. But you want to know another fun twist? You've got TWO options! The quilt here uses the Snapdragon and Spiced Boho Birds motifs, however you could also choose to use the simple Pearl Boho Leaves motif. I'll show an example of that soon. I just need to make another quilt first!

Once you get your Key West Bound binding fabric, simply cut 2.5" strips along the printed cut lines. I cut mine by folding the yardage in half, lining up the cut lines and slicing with a ruler and rotary cutter. Another option, though is to just use scissors and snip along the lines. I recommend doing whichever method gives you the most accuracy.

Once your strips are cut, sew them together (I think a straight stitch probably works best here, but you can play around with that), then fold the binding in half, wrong sides together, and press it as usual. When you’re finished, you’ll get a beautifully detailed little binding that is identical on both sides! Check out the video to see this in action!

Isn't this binding fabric so cute?? I think it looks like delicate embroidery or maybe a pretty little ribbon running along the edges.

So what do you think? Are you digging this new binding fabric? It seems so simple it's hard to believe it's not already a thing, but I bet in the next couple years it will become more and more popular. It really does accent a quilt in a special way. It's the icing on the quilt cake!

We have a blog post coming later this week that lists every shop we know of that’s carrying Suzy Quilts fabrics, including some that do international shipping or are in Europe — you can check that list soon to find it!

*sigh* I love the idea of this binding fabric. But I do wish modern quilt creators would understand that there are so very many of us who are not participating on social media. We don’t want to go to Instagram, or Facebook, or any other place that requires an account to see content.
